Would you like to host a class or event at The Philosopher’s House? Check out our FAQs!

If it looks like a fit, please send us an email as described under “How do I start?” below.

What type of classes and events do you host?

We host a variety of liberal arts classes and events. Philosophy, arts, language, culture, and travel are common topics.

Can I host a Bible study group?

At The Philosopher’s House we respect all religious traditions, but do not support the practice or spread of any particular one. Only secular or non-belief-based study groups are permitted. The study of religion from skeptical and academic perspectives is both permitted and encouraged!

Do I need a certification?

For most classes, no. However, for subjects that involve counseling elements a license is likely necessary.

When can I start?

We host classes on a rolling basis throughout the year. This means instructors can choose when to begin and end a run of classes.

Do I need to advertise for my class?

Yes! We provide basic advertising through our monthly calendars on site and online as well as social media. We also have a bulletin board downstairs exclusively for house-sponsored activities for instructors to hang fliers advertising classes. Instructors should do additional advertising to stoke interest and bring in new students. We are happy to give suggestions and ideas!

What materials do you provide?

We have tables, chairs, drawing horses, and floor cushions and tables.

What if my class requires expensive materials?

If you class requires materials, discuss the details with the House Manager. Typically instructors will provide these and the 50/50 profit split from ticket/registration sales will be adjusted accordingly.

Which rooms can I reserve for my class?

Any of them! While most instructors use the Classroom space, any area can be reserved for house-sponsored classes/events.

How do I get paid?
Our instructors collect payment for classes directly. While which payment platform you choose is completely up to you, may collect class fees with PayPal, Venmo, or in cash. Instructors donate 50% of all class fees to The Philosopher’s House. This can be done at the tea counter via debit card, cash, or check.
