Where tea, thought, and community brew together.
The Philosopher's House
Johnson City’s Living Room – filled with books, people and tea.
The Philosopher’s House is a liberal arts tea house – a gathering space, library, and class space in one. Designed to be a “living room” for inquisitive and compassion-focused people, The Philosopher’s House is a place to relax and explore new ideas in an intellectually-curious and supportive community. Drop by to get a drink, read, work, or join one of our various classes/meetups.
Community Events
We host numerous classes, meetups, and events. As a non-profit space, we strive to make access as affordable as possible. Many of our activities are suggested donation only, while others are supported by class fees.

Discover the World Through Tea
We can use tea as a window to explore philosophical, material, and social culture. In a cup or bowl of tea, we see the values of the society which developed it: we see the details of architecture in the method of heating the kettle, the preferences for clean, straight lines, or organic irregularity in the choice of ceramics, the values placed on individual reflection or social gathering in the brewing method. Tea engages us and widens our perspectives at the same time.
Here you can explore different types of tea for their taste, history, or novelty.
Our Memberships
Membership is for those who love spending time here, steeping in good company, quiet moments, and the joy of tea.
