SUMMARY:Mandarin Language Class
DESCRIPTION:Description: Mandarin Chinese is the single largest first language in the world\, with over 941 million native speakers\, and has become an invaluable language for anyone to learn\, whether they’re interested in engaging with Chinese business\, learning more about Chinese politics\, wanting to study deeper into Chinese culture\, or just fascinated by language! This course will function as an absolute beginner course in Mandarin Chinese. Learning objectives will be to be able to read and pronounce pinyin\, to learn very basic grammatical structures\, very basic day-to-day vocabulary\, begin to recognize and reproduce some characters\, and be able to hold simple\, introductory conversations. No prior Mandarin knowledge is necessary. If there are more advanced learners who would be interested in more advanced material\, please contact the instructor. \nInstructor Steven Jenkins: I have studied Mandarin Chinese at several universities in China and lived and worked in China for a number of years. I’m very excited to have the opportunity to help people start their journey in learning Mandarin Chinese! \nHow to register: Advanced registration is greatly preferred as class does have limited seating. See instructor contact for registration. \nCost:  Food and drink purchases encouraged OR 5.00 donation at tea counter to support our nonprofit. \nLocation: Parlor\, 2nd floor \nMaterials needed: A notetaking device (laptop\, tablet\, notebook\, etc.) . We will use Simplified characters in the class\, as that is used in Mainland China and elsewhere.  As that series has both textbooks and workbooks\, be sure to select the textbook.  If you have questions about the suitability of a version\, feel free to contact the instructor. \nInstructor Contact Information: Steven Jenkins (steven.jenkins@gmail.com)

SUMMARY:Climate Cafe
DESCRIPTION:What is a climate cafe? Climate-minded friends & neighbors who come together to share what’s important and to build a stronger\, safer world for us all! Climate Cafe occurs on the 2nd Tuesday monthly. \nLocation: Classroom/meditation space\, 2nd floor \nCost: Free. Food and drink purchases encouraged. \nHow to register: Drop-in. Registration form available to fill out upon arrival. \nInstructor Contact Information: Chelsea Green\, chelseagreencmi@gmail.com\nwww.anubeginningtherapy.com \nToo often\, our grief & anxiety around climate change lacks the community awareness\, support\, and rituals that would help us build resiliency. Now more than ever\, we need places & spaces to share our ideas\, our concerns\, our fears\, and our dreams. Gathering for these conversations helps us tap into a bigger network of support\, like the trees & mycelium share resources in their underground networks. \nClimate Cafes are free 90-minute gatherings welcome to all because we know that when we engage in meaningful conversation and action in the context of a community\, we grow our capacity to serve something bigger than ourselves. The Climate Cafe’s goal is to get more people together\, in more places\, talking about climate change in a supportive and welcoming space. \nThis event takes place on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at The Philosopher’s House in Johnson City\, Tennessee and is facilitated by Registered Climate Therapist\, Chelsea Green\, MA\, LPC\, CPA-NA. \nBeing human has always involved persisting through danger and uncertainty. By embracing our love for nature\, for all plants and animals\, and for humanity\, even in the face of great loss and pain our grief can empower us to fight for a better future for all.

SUMMARY:Storytelling Futurism Liberation Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Storytelling Futurism Liberation Workshop \nTelling Stories That Matter: Cultivating Our Stories to Meet This Moment \nWe are living in a time of profound upheaval. Many of us are carrying grief\, concern\, and uncertainty\, feelings that can be overwhelming and frightening. And yet\, history reminds us that moments of deep turmoil have often given rise to transformative movements\, opening possibilities once thought unimaginable. \nThis workshop begins from that tension: struggle and renewal existing side by side. \nThrough guided dialogue\, participatory storytelling\, and collective reflection\, we will explore questions such as: \n\nWhat does “showing up for one another” look like in practice?\nHow do we move from individual angst to collective action?\nWhat stories of change\, bold or subtle\, do we want to see take root in our communities?\nHow do we strengthen our collective power and stand for the people\, places\, and causes we love?\n\nWe will approach storytelling as futurism\, imagining the story of change we want for ourselves and our community. Trauma and turmoil may shape our narratives\, but they do not define them. Stories of fear and pain can also be transformed into stories of power\, hope\, and renewal. \nHow to register:\nApply by filling out the form at the following link.  Application does not guarantee a space in this workshop but you will be notified with further instructions if you are accepted. If you do not get a space in this workshop\, we will save your information for future opportunities as this one has very limited seats. Thank you for your interest! \nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeOQbFuCBeLnkbL5iIjn4ZVnpXRLqnyZ4AzDx36GwrTDTiA0A/viewform?usp=header \nLocation: Living Room/Fireplace\, 1st floor and side rooms for break out sessions. The teahouse is closed during this time so we will have private space for discussions and dialogue. \nCost: A 10.00-20.00 suggested donation to the teahouse nonprofit to support the space. Ability to donate will not affect your acceptance into this program and all will be welcome regardless. If you are accepted into the workshop\, a link will be emailed for you to make a suggested donation. \nWhat to bring:  Notebook\, pens/pencil\, curiosity\, a belief another world is possible.\n\n\nNOTE: This workshop is for community members and organizers. Priority will be given to participants who identify as BIPOC\, LGBTQI+\, and members of working-class communities\, allies\, and who are seeking space to reflect\, connect\, and imagine together. It is for those feeling the weight of this moment and desire building something\, together. \nFull description of this offering can be found at the link to Google Drive forms attached.https://docs.google.com/document/d/12KVZpWilHlsZuXfLdA1NT9Yjuw90O8_I/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=109455991241032991552&rtpof=true&sd=true
